PEEWEE SOFTBALL
Welcome to the Madison Little League’s Softball Peewee Division! The following information is intended to give players and parents an overview of this division. The Peewee Division allows Madison Little League to introduce the game of Softball to its participants. This division is instructional by nature and an environment where friendships, sportsmanship, and team work can be fostered.
Eligibility
Madison Little League’s Softball Peewee program is designed for players ages 6 to 8 (age as of December 31 of the year prior to play). Please note that the age cutoffs for softball are different in comparison to baseball. In addition, any player who is 8 years old as of December 31 and who has played two years of Peewee softball is eligible to attend our Minors player evaluations and MAY be allowed to play in the Minors with parental approval under the following circumstances:
- Player attends Minors evaluations and demonstrates that they has the skill set to play at the Minors level.
- Space is available based on registration numbers (each team will have 12 players).
The parent of any 8 year old with two years of Peewee experience that is interested in attending the player evaluation should contact Peewee Commissioner or Vice President-Softball prior to the season to secure a place at the evaluations.
Players moving up from Tee / Rookie Ball will have their first experience with softball in the Peewee Division. Coaches will pitch to the batter using an 11” “soft” softball. The rules are relaxed with the emphasis on teaching the players proper fundamentals for throwing and hitting.
Uniform, Equipment and Travel
The league will also provide each player with a uniform consisting of a jersey. Parents will be responsible for softball pants. Each player will need their own glove, cleats, helmet, and face shield. The league will provide bats and catchers equipment. Players are also free to use their own bats and rubber cleats are recommended for players.
Madison typically plays in a league with teams from area towns (Guilford, Clinton, Killingworth, Haddam, and Deep River) and travel to these towns may be required for games. Each team will typically play one game and one practice a week. One weekday practice and one Saturday game per week.
