Madison Little League’s Girls Pee Wee program is designed for Girls ages 7 and 8 (age as of December 31, 2013). Please note that the age cutoffs for softball are different compared to baseball. In addition, any girl who is 8 years old as of December 31, 2011 and who has played two years of Pee Wee softball is eligible to attend our Minors player evaluations and MAY be allowed to play in the Minors with parental approval under the following circumstances:
Player attends Minors evaluations on March 1, 2014 and demonstrates that she has the skill set to play at the Minors level.
Space is available based on registration numbers (each team will have 12 players).
The parent of any 8 year old with two years of Pee Wee experience that is interested in attending the player evaluation should contact Pee Wee Commissioner Janis Goodrich or Girls Vice President Mike Toohey (contact info below) by February 25 to secure a place at the evaluations.
Girls moving up from Tee / Rookie Ball will have their first experience with softball. Coaches will pitch to the girls using an 11” “soft” softball. The rules are very relaxed with the emphasis on teaching the girls proper fundamentals for throwing and hitting. Each player will need her own glove and the league will provide bats, batting helmets, and catchers equipment. Players are also free to use their own bats and rubber cleats are recommended for players. The league will also provide each player with a uniform consisting of a jersey, shorts, and a visor.
Madison typically plays in a league with teams from area towns (Guilford participated last year) and travel to these, and possibly other local towns, may be required. Each team will typically play two games (one weekday game and one Saturday game) per week.
If you have any questions or are interested in coaching your daughter, please contact Janis Goodrich. Prospective coaches are required to submit a volunteer form and undergo a background check.
